IEEE Commissioning & Testing

Services

Exponential Power can provide a complete array of testing and commissioning services for any data or network power system to “prove” system operability. From validating the condition of surplus equipment to complete IEEE load bank testing for design concept proof, Exponential Power will conduct the test to your Method of Procedure (MOP) or we will create one for your approval based on the standards & recommendations of IEEE, ANSI and/or the original equipment manufacturer’s specifications. Upon completion a meaningful and concise “state of health” report will be generated and submitted electronically so that you will have a permanent record or the results.

Exponential Power can provide Complete Battery Testing & Service in accordance with IEEE Std 450 for flooded battery plant and IEEE Std 1188 for sealed (VRLA) battery plant.

Standards
NERC & IEEE Battery Standards

Battery Testing Schedules & Requirements NERC standard PRC-005-2, as well as all IEEE battery maintenance standards, contain detailed battery testing and maintenance guidelines. Also, most battery manufacturers publish testing requirements to ensure warranty compliance. IEEE Standards for Stationary Battery Capacity Load Testing The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has published recommended standards for battery maintenance, testing, and replacement: IEEE 450-2010 For Vented Lead-Acid (VLA or Flooded) batteries for stationary applications Download Exponential Power Guidelines IEEE 1188-2005 For Valve-Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries for stationary applications Download Exponential Power Guidelines IEEE 1106-2005 For Vented Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cad) batteries for stationary applications Download Exponential Power Guidelines NERC Standard PRC-005-2 Reliability Standard PRC-005-2 from NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corp.) presents testing requirements for all stationary battery systems which are connected to the Bulk Electric System (BES). This standard is in place so that these BES protection systems are kept in working order. The enforcement date, which is the first date when entities must be compliant with part of the standard for PRC-005-2, was April 15th, 2015. Recommended Testing Schedule Exponential Power wants to help you test and maintain your stationary batteries for optimal life and health. Download the complimentary Exponential Power Recommended Testing Schedule, which is based on NERC & IEEE standards. We’ve compiled the schedule and guidelines for you. Exponential Power offers the most comprehensive tools to properly conduct preventative maintenance and predictive analysis on any battery system to fulfill compliance with IEEE Std 1187 & IEEE Std 450 practices.

Load Tests

Whether you contact Exponential Power to perform your battery installation, for routine service work, to purchase test equipment, or if you simply want advice, we are here to help. Exponential Power has been in business since 1915 so we have the experience to answer all of your questions. Exponential Power has a nationwide service network that covers the U.S. and beyond.

Load tests are the most accurate way to determine the state of health of your battery. Load tests are also very time consuming – they typically require that the system be shut down and taken offline and also require special equipment.

Exponential Power can perform IEEE load tests based around your requirements. As an option we can provide temporary power so that your system does not have to be shut down. After the load test is completed we provide complete reports that will comply with NERC standard PRC-005-02.
